Barry D. Stamm, M.D.
has been a leader in cataract and laser surgery developments for over 30 years in the Northwestern Pennsylvania region. He
was the first surgeon to perform Lens Implant Surgery at both Hamot Medical Center and St. Vincent Health Center in 1979.

Approved for use in patients by the FDA in March 2005, the first Alcon AcrySof® Restor Multifocal intraocular lens implants were performed in Erie, Pennsylvania by Dr. Stamm in June 2005.

On a national level, Dr. Stamm was one of only 30 ophthalmologists in the country to be selected by the FDA to clinically investigate the YAG laser as a means of opening the capsule membrane of the eye. He introduced this technique to the Erie area in 1983 and subsequently, it has become the standard procedure on a worldwide level for opening the posterior capsule in a non-invasive, painless, and precise manner.

Dr. Stamm received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He did his internship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and completed his residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Stamm has been in private practice in Erie, Pennsylvania since 1978.

Dr. E. Matthew Zimm

Dr. Zimm performed his medical school training at LECOM, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class. Dr. Zimm did a one year transitional internship at Millcreek Community Hospital. Dr. Zimm then performed a three year surgical and medical ophthalmology residency through Michigan State University. This was followed by an intensive one year fellowship in laser vision correction surgery through Michigan State University.

Dr. E. Matthew Zimm's grandfather, Dr. Edward Zimm, Sr., was an Ear/Nose/Throat physician who practiced medicine in Erie for over 40 years. Dr. Edward Zimm, Jr., Dr. E. Matthew Zimm's father, practiced Dentistry in Erie for over 30 years.
